Sakis Poullas drives a licensed taxi on Kalymnos, a roomy Toyota Corolla estate with space for luggage and climbing gear. Like most taxi drivers on the island, his day follows the ferries: meeting arrivals at Pothia harbour, running visitors out to Masouri, Myrties and Armeos on the west coast, where most climbers stay, and bringing them back for departures. In between come rides to the crags and beaches, to the boat for Telendos at Myrties, to Vathy and the fjord at Rina, up to Emporios at the north end, and into Pothia for shopping, the doctor or dinner. Taxis are few on Kalymnos and busiest around ferry times, so call ahead, especially for an early boat or a late arrival, and ask the fare when you book. A half-day drive around the island (Vathy, Emporios and the west coast in one go) is worth asking about too.
